City Theater Ingolstadt
This theatre is the beating heart when it comes to entertainment of high artistic quality in Ingolstadt. It is the largest pure theatre in Bavaria (after the Munich theatres), staging around 500 performances per season. The majority of shows are performed by a permanent theatre ensemble, sometimes augmented by guest music theatre ensembles from other Bavarian venues including Augsburg Theatre, Munich's Theater am Gärtnerplatz and the Bavarian State Ballet. Stadttheater Ingolstadt enjoys an outstanding reputation in the region and also serves as an important educational venue for all sections of the population.
In choosing its programme (which includes selected musicals), the theatre endeavours to bridge the gap between innovation and tradition. Indeed, while the time-honoured culture of theatre is upheld, Stadttheater Ingolstadt also responds to new currents: in particular, works by young, contemporary authors are just as capable as a classic play for describing the complexity and impenetrability of our world today.
There's no need to miss out on thought-provoking entertainment, either. Other key components of the programme include classic and light comedies, the annual musical in the main auditorium, which is presented by the Ingolstadt ensemble, extremely popular open-air performances in the Turm Baur tower and much more.
